PhD in Physics, March 1981, Ioffe institute of Physics RAS, S.-Petersburg, Russia.

Scientific field

K. N. Eltsov’s Surface Phenomena Lab is active in present in Surface Chemistry, Local Probe Microscopy(SPM) and Surface Nanotechnology.

  • Chemical state and local structure in process of halogenation of metal and semiconductor surfaces by means of Auger Electron Spectroscopy/Factor Analysis (AES/FA), Extended Energy Loss Fine Structure (EELFS), SPM, Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) and other spectroscopic methods.
  • R&D of Scanning Probe Microscopes for Ultra High Vacuum application
  • Nanostructered surfaces obtained by halogenation and light (or electron) reduction of metal surfaces.

International experience

  • Research stages by invitation at Institute of Electron Technology of Technical University of Wroclaw, Poland, (1990,1992,1994, 1995)
  • Research stages in Florence University in framework of NATO Linkage Grant (1994, 1995, 1997) and International Co-operation Russian-Italy Protocol (1996).

  • Holder of several national (Russian) grants from Ministry of Science and Technology, Russian Foundation of Basic Research(RFBR) for basic studies on solid surfaces
  • Holder of International grants from International Foundation of Conversion, Office of Naval Research (USA), Soros Foundationfor research and device fabrication
  • National (Russian) co-ordinator of two NATO Linkage grants (1994-95 and 1996-1997) for studies of functional modifications on solid surfaces
